EQOS Energie commissioned by ovag Netz AG to renovate substation

Multi-million euro renovation of the 110-kV plant in Nieder-Wöllstadt by the end of the year

On behalf of ovag Netz AG, EQOS Energie renovate the 110-kV substation in Nieder-Wöllstadt (Hesse) and route the power cables to the existing 20-kV substation. The planned renovations of the outdated plant will ensure the regional security of supply for around 10,000 households. The aim of the multi-million euro project is to achieve higher network stability and lower maintenance costs. The upcoming works on the 40-year-old plant are expected to be completed at the end of the year.

“We are very pleased to realise this first exciting project in the coming months for ovag Netz AG”, says Carsten Müller, Sales Manager energy technology of EQOS Energie. “As a general contractor, we have a special responsibility in this project because in addition to the complete renovation of the high-voltage plant, we also carry out all renovation works in the fields of dismantling, civil engineering and electrical installation.” The high-voltage equipment, steel structures and foundations will be dismantled in the coming months, so that these can be replaced with as-new components and parts. This renovation in the substation shall affect two transformer and cable fields as well as the busbar.

Within the field of electrical installation, the stranding, piping and grounding connections will be checked and replaced. Furthermore, a power cable will be routed as a connection from the transformer that supplies the new medium-voltage plant. “The routing cables will be separated at strategic points, connected and routed to the new plant”, explains Carsten Eckhold, responsible project manager from ovag Netz AG. “The new cable field will be connected to the overhead line and put into operation before moving the 20 kV cable to the new medium-voltage system.”
