20 kV auxiliary supply substation for the Austrian power station OVW II
EQOS Energie Austria is beginning installation of the 20 kV auxiliary supply substation in the new pump storage power station OVW II on behalf of Vorarlberger Illwerke AG. A 14-field double busbar substation with SF6 isolated technology is needed for the auxiliary supply of the new power station and the surrounding auxiliary equipment as well as for connecting the existing OVW I power station. The medium-voltage substation has modern control and safety technology with communication via IEC 61850 protocol.
In addition to engineering, factory testing, and the transport of all parts to the installation site, EQOS Energie is responsible for the complete turnkey installation and commissioning of the system. “Due to the great performance and the special characteristics of the power station regarding regulation, the focus will be on state-of-the-art technology and the highest availability”, said Thomas Gattringer, project manager for energy technology at EQOS Energie. “That is why the system will also be equipped with modern digital double busbar differential protection – which is typically only used for high-voltage systems”.
