EQOS Energie establishes mobile radio installation in Berlin
At the Carnival of Cultures, a temporary antenna system was established at the Heilig Kreuz Kirche to increase the capacity of the network
The four-day ‘Carnival of Cultures’ festival takes place in Berlin for the 21st time. Once a year, the city centre transforms into a unique colourful street festival with around 1.5 million participants. Numerous visitors take photos and videos of the spectacle to instantly post them on the internet. In order to ensure this runs as smoothly as possible for the visitors, EQOS Energie established an additional temporary antenna system with GSM/UMTS and LTE system technology at and in the Heilig Kreuz Kirche in Kreuzberg. The particular challenge when establishing the system was to mount the antennas to the listed building as discreetly as possible. The antennas were also colourfully concealed for this purpose.
The mobile antenna system for events should ensure that the festivalgoers can share their photos, videos and news at the usual speed. With the number of people on site, this would be difficult to manage with the existing base stations. Work started on the church two weeks before the festival. EQOS Energie installers and technicians worked on the installation for four days. “Mobile antenna systems and masts are ideal for large events, where the network capacities have to be increased in the short term”, according to Jens Lenk, Communication Technology Unit Manager at EQOS Energie Deutschland.
The mobile concept from EQOS Energie is suitable for various applications. Due to the approval as a mobile structure, mobile masts can contribute to the optimisation of network quality and capacity expansion in existing networks. The temporary antenna masts are particularly flexible due to their small dimensions and small base area, as well as the various configurations with a height of up to 30 m. The mobile foundations and the flexible construction ensure fast assembling and dismantling.
