EQOS Energie Österreich enlightens Vienna
Numerous Viennese streets and alleys are aglitter with light
Once again, EQOS Energie provides various streets, alleys and facades in Vienna with the famous Christmas lighting known well beyond the city’s limits. Within three weeks, eight EQOS Energie fitters worked in night shifts to install the spheres, banners, ornaments and light strings. Among the most famous streets are Rotenturmstraße and Palaisviertel in the historic city centre.
In total, seven oversized Christmas ball ornaments with a diameter of almost 4 meters are installed in Rotenturmstraße. Weighing roughly 200 kilograms each, the heavy constructions are transported in four parts. “Due to their large scale, we cannot deliver the spheres in one piece, but need to assemble them on site”, says Christian Gritsch, Project Manager Energy technology EQOS Energie Austria. “First, two parts at a time are screwed together to form half shells. They are then lifted by crane and connected with one another.”
Subsequently the spheres are fastened to a pre-set anchor at a height of 10 meters by means of a basket crane. The anchors are installed at the house facade and can carry a total load of about 300 kilograms. The red luminous spheres are surrounded by 16 flags. In total, about 250,000 lights transform the shopping street into a red sea of lights. To ensure that all elements are lit properly, the lamps are already checked in October and if necessary repaired. The entire lighting makes use of energy-efficient LED lights which consume over 80 percent less energy compared to conventional light bulbs.
